With our English program we aim for our students to be able to:

 

• Speak fluently and confidently in a variety of situations;
• Read critically, analyze, and discuss various texts from a variety of genres;
• Explore other cultures and ideas through reading;
• Examine the social, historical, cultural, and biographical influences on literary texts;
• Utilize the writing process to write in accurate English;
• Compose narrative, literary, expositive, evaluative, and academic writings to inform, explain, persuade, analyze, and/or entertain;
• Demonstrate information literacy;
• Demonstrate effective listening strategies in a variety of situations;
• Understand connotations, inferences, and implications as well as direct comments and/or instructions;
• Take and develop notes effectively;
• Locate, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and organize information from a variety of sources including print, electronic databases, and online resources to access information;
• Cite sources correctly;
• Develop presentation skills using technology.
